X Factor Singer Dumps her Man in a Frantic Attempt at Fame
Scarlett Quinn went from telling the judges her man was “her world” to agreeing moments later to go solo if it meant progressing on the hit ITV show.
Outspoken show boss Simon Cowell admitted he was shocked by the sudden decision which left Ashley Slater, 53, cast aside last night.
Scarlett said afterwards: “I was in total shock that I said yes so quickly to go on my own. I was in shock and then I felt our whole world had come crashing down. And after, when I realised what I had done and how quickly, I couldn’t stop sobbing.”
She said that after the recording “we went home, talked about it for two or three days and thankfully Ash is so busy he throws himself back into work and he said ‘Absolutely, I will support you’.
“To be publicly pooh-poohed off for me makes me love him 100 times more. We’ve come through it and we are stronger for it.”
She was shocked by judge Louis Walsh who, after their swing jive performance, said he thought they could be father and daughter.
Scarlett hit back: “No he is not my father, he is my world. We are extremely happy. It was love at first sight.”
She said later: “The comment was really below the belt. I couldn’t believe I was hearing it. I wanted the ground to open up. I thought Ash might go through without me, I felt very desperate and answered quickly.”
Ashley – who has worked with disc jockey Fatboy Slim – and Scarlett, from Brighton, met four years ago writing music, and quickly became a couple. They now have a two-year-old son.
Appearing as Kitten And The Hip, pink-haired Scarlett entranced the panel, who dismissed her partner as bringing nothing to the act.
Her shock change of heart astonished viewers as the show’s judges asked her to go it alone.
Cheryl Fernandez-Versini told Scarlett: “I am not convinced you work together if I am completely honest. I think you are stunning. You’ve got something but there are a lot of changes I would make.”
And former Spice Girl Mel B told them: “I think the man should step back.” He should say ‘You know what I’m pushing 60, let … [you] be the front of this’, and just stand down like a man.”
Scarlett reached out to Ashley, touching his arm for support just before dealing the blow telling the panel: “He is amazing, he is a star as well.”
Simon put the final nail in the working relationship saying: “This is quite awkward, because you are in a relationship, you’ve got a kid together.”
Tearful Scarlett protested and then Cheryl told her she could see potential in her if she was willing to consider going it alone.
Shocked Before she stopped speaking Scarlett replied: “Yes! I’d do anything it takes to get there. It is the absolute world to me. I am so hungry for this.”
Shocked Simon said: “I wouldn’t want to be him in that relationship. She didn’t wait half a second. I’d like to split you up, ‘Yes’. That didn’t take long. Normally you’d wait a couple of seconds.”
All the judges put her through to the next round. Also going through was Chloe Jasmine, 23, dubbed the poshest contestant yet, who sang Ella Fitzgerald’s Black Coffee.
