Sugababes Singer Mutya Buena Declared Bankrupt

Monday, September 29th, 2014

Former Sugababes singer Mutya Buena has been declared bankrupt by the UK High Court.

The 29-year-old, who is now part of three-piece band Mutya Keisha Siobhán (MKS) alongside the other original Sugababes members, was given the order after she failed to pay a tax bill.

According to The Sun, Buena blames an administrative error for the tax slip-up.

As part of her old girl band, Buena had a handful of number one’s including Freak like Me and Hole in the Head by the time she quit in 2005.

Though all three original members eventually left the group – each being replaced – they reformed under the new moniker of MKS, rumoured at the time to have been developing an album as early as 2011.

Their debut single Flatline was released in August 2013 making it to number 50 in the charts.

The band’s fans have since eagerly awaited new material, though earlier this year Digital Spy reported that the group had teased a new song entitled Today.

In addition, a demo for the song Burnt Out surfaced on Russian social networking site VK 10 days ago, as the group continues to write and record.

Buena’s bandmate and friend Keisha Buchanan complained of the coverage on Twitter this morning, telling her followers: “I’m actually crackin up at the way our single “Flatline” (1 of the sickest most credible songs of 2013) is used as a reason 4 everything.”

Adding: “You can’t get rich off a top 10 or Top 5 & you can go broke from a top 50 so let’s stop trying to dramatise everything lol.”

While each member tweets in their own capacity, the group hasn’t done so since 23 March.
