Bristol Singer Christina Marie Joint Favourite to Win The Voice
Bristol singer Christina Marie is joint favourite to win The Voice after winning through to the final of the hit television series.
Christina, 20, who lives in Redland and grew up in Fishponds, booked her place in the final with a powerful performance of Cher’s 60s hit, ‘Bang Bang’.
She said: “I feel as though I am having an out-of-body experience – it’s really weird.
“This has been my life for the past nine or ten months and now it’s coming to an end and we don’t know what’s going to happen.
“I can’t believe I am in the last four. I just don’t know what’s going to happen. There’s lots to think about.”
Christina said it was mostly her mentor Ricky Wilson and the production team which chose her song to sing to beat fellow contestant Chris Royal in the play off.
She said: “I was happy with it at first because it showed a different side of me and I am bit of a rock chick at heart.
“I had a few problems with it because it’s such a belty number and I had to give my vocals a rest day because I was beginning to lose my voice.”
She said that after last week’s emotional show, she decided to enjoy the semi-final.
She said: “I decided I was going to go out there and enjoy it and not wind myself up.
“I told myself, ‘This is what I do now. I know I can do it – I just need to breathe and enjoy it.”
She added that waiting to hear the result on stage whether she had won through to the final was nerve-wracking.
She said: “I was just trying to stay calm – it was a really big and intense moment.”
Christina is now joint favourite with Sally at 13/8 to win the contest.
They are closely followed by Jamie at 5/1 and Jermain at 6/1.
The semi-final was the first time that Christina had to rely on the public vote as last week, judge Ricky Wilson fast-tracked her straight through to the semi-finals.
After each of the singers sang solo, they sang with their coaches.
Team Will started the sequence with Bowie’s hit, ‘Let’s Dance’ while Christina belted out ‘You Really Got Me’ with Chris in Team Ricky.
This was followed by Team Tom with ‘Dancing in The Street’ which gave a nice reminder of Sir Tom’s strong voice but a rather safe performance in which we didn’t really get to hear much of Sally or Bizzi.
Team Kylie finished off with ‘Into The Blue’ with Lee and Jamie.
Shakira and Enrique both gave live performances before the results were announced.
