Aretha Franklin Wants Record Deal For Family
She has won 18 Grammy Awards and is one of the best-selling female artists of all-time by having sold over 75 million records worldwide.
But it is no longer individual success that Aretha Franklin is concerned with.
The storied soon-to-be 72-year-old crooner told TMZ after a private birthday party at the Ritz-Carlton in New York City on Saturday that she would like record deals for family members.
Many stars came out to celebrate the I Say A Little Prayer singer’s birthday like Denzel Washington, Andre 3000 from hip-hop duo Outkast, and Babyface.
When asked what she wanted for her birthday after the gala, ‘The Queen of Soul’ gave a rather selfless answer.
Aretha told TMZ: ‘I’m looking for a record deal for my granddaughter Victorie, and my son Kecalf, and Jordan.
‘Jordan is going to the School of the Arts at the end of the year, so Jordan is on his way. Now we’ve gotta get Kecalf and Victorie going.’
She said that she would even turn to the man that signed her to a record deal; Clive Davis, who was also in attendance at the event.
Aretha added: ‘Clive is going to hear some of Jordan’s things before too long.’
In February, Aretha’s granddaughter Victorie Franklin took centre stage as she performed Tamela Mann’s Take Me to the King at the BET Honors event.
The budding star wowed the audience with her performance in a pretty teal-coloured floor-length gown with a jeweled detail.
Aretha has been giving Victorie one-on-one vocal coaching and she thinks the youngster has a big future ahead of her.
The Respect singer said recently: ‘She’s coming along very well. I came down to see her rehearse, and she brought tears to my eyes.’
