Voice Singer Lee Glasson is Kylie Successful!

Monday, January 13th, 2014

Lee Glasson is ready to do battle after getting through to the next stage of BBC talent show The Voice.

The Coventry singer-songwriter wowed judges Tom Jones, Will.i.am and new additions Kylie Minogue and Ricky Wilson on Saturday night – with all four fighting to mentor the 31-year-old.

His version of Kylie’s very own pop classic Can’t Get You Out Of My Head went down a charm and he is now part of the Aussie superstar’s team for the next stage.

There he will go up against another of his mentor’s chosen singers in the battle phase to see who makes it in to Kylie’s final six acts.

Lee, who had his family backstage cheering him on, said: “It was petrifying – you are preparing backstage on your song and building up to it, but when that point comes you walk out on to the stage and it is silent.

“That really intensifies it and it is very scary, especially as I have never played to a crowd that size before. It was intense but it was exciting.

“You can’t see the judges either and then you just see a hand and you think ‘oh, that’s Kylie Minogue’.

“But I just took a deep breath and tried to get lost in the moment, as that suits my style.

“A lot of people go in thinking I’m influenced by Beyonce so I’m going to sing Beyonce or whoever they look up to. But I wanted to stand out so I took a song and put my own twist on it as I thought it would make a statement.

“Kylie seemed to really enjoy it but I’m not sure if she even recognised it herself for the first 10 or 15 seconds as it was so different.”

Lee, an insurance manager, studied music at college and then took a break, before reigniting the connection when he bought a guitar again at the age of 22.

Since then he has been playing the acoustic scene around Coventry after moving to the city 12 years ago to study business management at university.

As for his decision to join Team Kylie for the next round over the other the three, Lee admits it was a hard decision to make: “They were all pitching for me and I genuinely didn’t know who I wanted until I stepped on to the stage.

“I was veering towards Ricky and then spoke to them about their influences as I wanted them to understand mine, and Ricky didn’t necessarily share the same as me. But Kylie seemed to have that knowledge of mine a bit more so I went with her.”
