Katherine Jenkins to Receive an OBE
Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins will receive an OBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours, it’s been revealed.
The 33-year-old singer is receiving the accolade in recognition of her work in support of Britain’s Armed Forces, as well as jer charity fundraising efforts and for breaking down barriers to popularise classical music.
According to The Sun on Sunday, a palace source said: “Ms Jenkins has been a fine ambassador for the arts, good causes, our troops and the nation. This is a well-deserved honour. Her Majesty is delighted to bestow it.”
The blonde mezzo-soprano has enjoyed enormous success with her albums going platinum around the world, and has put her in 11th place in the Sunday Times young millionaires list in 2010 with an £11million fortune.
Jenkins has been labelled the Forces’ Sweetheart for her work as a British Forces Foundation trustee and has even travelled to entertain troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
She also raised £25,000 for charity earlier this year when she ran the London marathon in memory of her father, who died of cancer when she was 15.
