Coventry Gospel Singer Ready To Shine
A gospel singer from Coventry is determined to stand out from the crowd when she joins a star-studded cast at this year’s MOBO awards.
Sandra Godley is among the nominations for best gospel act at the 2013 awards , which celebrate music of black origin and take place at the SSE Hydro arena in Glasgow on Saturday October 19.
And to make sure she shines just as brightly as the likes of Jessie J, Tinie Tempah and possibly even Jay-Z at the glitzy awards, the 49-year-old has joined forces with designer Anna Lewis to ensure she has a dress fit for the occasion.
Anna, a self-employed designer who also works for the Belgrade Theatre costume department, came to Sandra’s rescue when the singer realised she had nothing suitable to strut along the red carpet in.
Sandra, who lives on the Bannerbrook estate, said: “I got to the point a few weeks ago where I didn’t have a dress and I couldn’t get hold of a designer or someone who could do the sort of thing I wanted.
“So I did a shout out to my friends to see if they knew anyone who could help and a friend said they knew someone who worked at the Belgrade.
“My daughter has been in shows at the theatre before so I knew how good the quality of the costumes was.
“I met with Anna and she understood what I was after straight away – my cry for help had been met!
“We talked at length about the look and feel that I wanted, as I want it to be unique and help bring out the diva in me.
“The final drawings by Anna are fantastic and this really is the icing on the cake.
“I definitely want to stand out as I am representing the city, as well as myself, and this part is making me feel really excited now.”
