Well, she did it, the mass marketing, twittering and face booking and media attention has paid off. Mile Cyrus is no.1!

The singer reached the summit of the Billboard Hot 100 thanks to the large number of video streams ‘Wrecking Ball’ received.

Miley Cyrus has scored her first number one single in the US with “Wrecking Ball”.

The track rose to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 thanks to its download sales and the millions of streams its video received.

Unlike the British charts, which are ranked solely on sales, the US singles countdown is decided by the amount of video streams, download sales and radio plays.

“Wrecking Ball” received 36.5 million video streams and 477,000 paid downloads to knock Katy Perry’s comeback single “Roar” from the top spot.

The controversial video, which shows Cyrus writhing naked on a demolition device, has no doubt helped the singer gain her first number one.

The clip, which was released weeks after her eyebrow-raising VMA performance, broke Vevo records to become the most-viewed video in 24 hours, attracting 19.3m global views.

Cyrus had previously hit the number two spot with her singles “We Can’t Stop” and 2009’s “Party in the USA”, though the former did garner the former Disney star her first UK chart topper.

She is also the first member of her family to achieve a Billboard number one.

He father, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, had a number four hit with “Achy Breaky Heart” in 1992, while her brother Trace rose to number 10 with his band Metro Station’s “Shake It” in 2008.
